Hibernian v IF Elfsborg: The Preview
By: Fraser | July 2nd, 2008
We’ve known for a while now that Hibs are to face Swedish outfit, Elfsborg, in the Inter-Toto Cup 2nd Round. But who are IF Elfsborg? Well, they were recently the Swedish champions in 2006 and currently sit 2nd in the Allsvenskan. Should we be worried? Well, yes, most probably. Amongst the squad at Elfsborg lie a few Swedish internationals, most notably Anders Svensson. Svensson spent time in the Premiership so if Hibs are to infact defeat the odds and overcome Elfsborg, they have a tough time ahead of them.
However, it might just be a week or so into our pre-season, but Elfsborg have their own worries about coming to Easter Road. With a small back-four, Elfsborg may well have trouble dealing with Fletcher and Nish, who will be looking to open their accounts for the season. Apparently Elfsborg have no real standout flair players which may play into Hibs’ hands with the guile and skill of Zemmama and Shiels on show in Midfield.
Both the two clubs and fans alike don’t really know what to expect come 3pm on Sunday. What will come of David Van Zanten’s debut at right-back? Will Benji finally show the promise of last year’s pre-season? or will Alan O’Brien score a hattrick and win the tie for Hibs? Time will only tell.
Match odds with bet365: Hibernian 11/10, Draw 11/5, Elfsborg 21/10

Good luck to the Hibees in this one. I’d love to see a third SPL team in the UEFA Cup, especially since I have my doubts about Queens doing much at all.
